Hi guys!
Welcome to the new season of Symphogear! This is where I will be writing about my impressions of the episodes. So, here are my impressions for the 12th episode: AXZ! As always, feel free to write your own impressions of the episode in the comments section, but please don't read it if you don't want to be spoiled.
Episode 12 Impressions
I actually didn't really like this episode. It was very anti-climatic and I didn't like the way that the writers handled Hibiki's god transformation issue. I really feel that the god transformation could've gone for 2 episodes, but it finished rather quickly and I was hoping that it would end on the cocoon breaking open.
I'm happy about the power of friendship saving Hibiki, but I also don't like how they shoved another Hibiki and Miku bonding moment in. I knew that they would call Miku in, but it felt forced and the saving went by so fast - it felt more like fan-catering to shippers and to be nice about it - Miku's not my favorite character. It also just feels like Miku should've really stayed in the background considering that she doesn't really have much of a role besides best friend anymore. I love her songs, but just not her personality. So, I apologize to Miku fans about this. I'm also not a fan of the shipping surrounding the two of them and I just see Hibiki's and Miku's relationship as one of sisters and best friends.
So I also heavily apologize to those that do like it, but this is just how I feel. However, I do support a couple of yuri ships in this series like Maria x Tsubasa and Chris x Miku.
This is also just my hope, but I also actually want Hibiki to experience true romantic love next season. For example, Hibiki falls in love with a Custodian boy or a boy who became a Custodian via a relic or a male Symphogear User because I think seeing Hibiki truly falling in love with someone would add a new dynamic to her character. I was especially inspired by Aoi Yuuki's character in Sagrada Reset for this idea.
After all, one of Fine's biggest criticisms in the first season was that Hibiki didn't know what true romantic love is and I think Hibiki experiencing that would be interesting. It would also connect back to the "connecting without words" theme because their relationship/love could bring the two races back together. But, enough ranting about shipping and relationships, let's get back to the topic at hand.
There were a few things about this episode that I did like:
The Anti-LiNKER butt shot was funny. I actually groaned a bit because I didn't want Hibiki to get injected in the butt and it reminded me of a painful experience from my own childhood.
The Trump parody with the nuke was funny. I know it probably shouldn't, but seeing that actually made me laugh a bit.
Saint-Germain's role and her and her group's final swan song was great and their self-sacrifice was so touching!
Hibiki bursting in at the end to destroy Adam's arm was funny especially when Tiki blocked Adam from getting his hands on the Divine Power.
So overall it wasn't a great episode, but there were some funny moments in it.
Okay, so until the next update, later!
